Hello MMO-The Most Highly Anticipated MMOs of 2020

2019 was a surprisingly good year for gamers with a lot of new games playable. For example, Heroes of the Storm’s launch in June, Skyforge’s Open Beta in July, WildStar’s free-to-play launch on September, and ELOA’s launch in November. The vigorous momentum of client game industry convinces us a better new year.

I had written down Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal on this list because I’ve been so hyped for them, while after much thought I removed them. For now, the developer of Lost Ark does not tell any plan for the West, and Lineage Eternal skipped G-star 2019 even if it schedules to launch globally, so it takes time to see them, at least 2 or 3 years later. Taking into account of your opinions in Readers’ Choice event 2019, I’ve selected ten MMOs and list them here. Now let’s look ahead to 2019 and find what game will surprise us.

NO. 10 Star Citizen

It’s hard to define the genre of Star Citizen, I’d say it’s a mixture because it blends space flight simulator, first person shooter, MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) features together, and it will receive Oculus Rift’s support, undoubtedly, it’s a promising project.

After reaching 1 million backers in last October, the company opened the alpha access of Star Citizen for players. Alpha 2.0 is the biggest update to Star Citizen yet, a wide swath of features, including large world maps, multi-crew ships, seamless first person combat, missions and much more have been introduced. However, we have to wait for the full version of the game for a while because no exact release date is announced.

NO. 9 Battleborn

At Gamescom 2019 Battleborn’s publisher, 2K Games, has announced the release date of this MOBA which will start on May 3, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, so cheers! We’ll see it soon! And four playable characters: Ambra, Melka, Rayna, and Benedict at that time have been unveiled. Seldom first-person shooter has ever had such many character as Battleborn.

Adopting a first-person perspective, Battleborn features both a co-op campaign and multiplayer PvP mode. Players can pick up a hero to fight shoulder by shoulder and complete quests with friends in a tight co-op campaign, or try out one of several different competitive multiplayer match types in games of up to 10 players. The digital pre-order has been available on Steam and PS4, if you decide to pre-order your digital copy of the game, you’ll get to deck your heroes out in golden character skins for Thorn, Reyna, Montana, Marquis, and Rath. NO. 8 Atlas Reactor

Currently, Atlas Reactor from Trion is in Alpha and the developers haven’t finalized the timer settings. It’s a team-tactics game which takes a different path, making the action more strategic and measured in PvP market.

Atlas Reactor features high-stakes battles conducted through fast-paced, simultaneous turns. There are two modes of turns:
Decision mode, where players choose their actions;
Resolution Mode, where players watch their decisions play out.

Each turn is broken into four distinct phases, which always proceed in the same order – Prep, Dash, Blast and Move – with each phase coinciding with specific gameplay actions.

Atlas Reactor pits a distinct cast of larger-than-life Freelancers against each other in an all-new PC tactics game that combines fast-paced action with simultaneous turns in nerve-wrecking battles. The near-infinite combination of tactics and strategy in every fast-paced turn forces players to think on their feet, offering a unique, nail-biting team strategy experience. Six of eight characters have been revealed on the Official Website, check them out.

NO. 7 Monster Hunter Online

The arrival of Monster Hunter Online CN’s Open Beta caused a great stir throughout the world, yes, I mean throughout the world. Though it’s CN version, a lot of western players are interested in it and have tried various approaches to access. A hardcore gamer even made the English translation for Monster Hunter Online himself. Well, no one knows when the official English Patch will come at present.

Tencent also reveals that they will launch the first update for Monster Hunter Online in January, 2020, bringing new weapons, new monsters and new costumes. And they also plan to update the game on a monthly basis with at least one new monster or feature. What’s more, they also consider releasing a concert based on Monster Hunter’s music. Watch the gameplay video by Scion Storm below when you have time.

NO. 6 Herowarz

Popular Korean MMO Herowarz is coming out in English this year since KOG Games and A.Storm had signed a contract to launch the popular MMORPG HeroWarz to every gamer in North America and the western market last October. Both A.Storm and KOG Games are companies known for their focus on providing deep and engaging action gaming experiences, which makes Herowarz more promising.

HeroWarz isn’t a game just for RPG and action gamers. It is the ultimate action RPG where players select and cultivate unique heroes to build their personal assault force. And its standalone PvP element of HeroWarz called Arena TV promotes competitive, fast paced action with a character lineup that goes even beyond that of the RPG side.

With an isometric view, HeroWarz is a fast paced, engaging online PC action MMO game that allows players to choose from many different playable characters, each with unique abilities and skills, and will be supported with constant content development. There are 15 heroes are introduced on their Official Website, feel free to check them out.

NO. 5 Overwatch

The Closed Beta of Overwatch was offline last December. Though the game’s polishing has been well implemented on time, the dev. team is not ready to present the Closed Beta back to us yet. “A big reason for this delay is that we really wanted to add one more big feature to the next beta patch,” said Game Director Jeff Kaplan.

In addition to the game modes, Point Capture and Payload, it’s possible for Overwatch to gain a new game mode along with the new maps. No exact date for Overwatch’s Closed Beta has been revealed, but the Beta is very likely to resume in February. Please stay tuned!

NO. 4 Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III is an action role-playing game from famed Japanese developer FROMSOFTWARE that will be available throughout North America and South America in April 12, 2020 for the PlayStation4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and PC via STEAM. It has a Collector’s Edition and Day One Edition that are exclusive to the PlayStation 4 system and XBOX ONE versions of the game.

Like every game in the series, each minute you stay alive will be a victory in itself! The game provides you an all-new world filled with heinous enemies, hidden secrets, and captivating environments as they search to destroy the awakened Lords of Cinder and discover what has happened to this apocalyptic land.

NO. 3 Albion Online

According to the developer Sandbox Interactive, Albion Online’s Closed Beta will be extended and not be over before August 1, 2020. This CBT is available for every player that owns a Founder Pack. Thanks to the solid supporters and the open-minded dev. team, Albion Online has been continuously improved, no matter the graphic or game mechanism. The team has done a great job at giving players what they want, always taking the opinions and suggestions very serious and trying to communicate with players both in game and on the forums.

At the end of January, Albion Online will bring its big second content update Brutus after a patch published including some bugfixes on January 13.

Featuring a player-driven economy that all items and buildings are player crafted, hardcore PvP for guilds to fight across 800 territories and a classless character customization system, Albion Online gives players a friendly gaming experience, interested players can spend some time to read the overview by Raptorak and review by Urzakefrostgard before purchase Albion Online’s Founder’s Pack.

NO. 2 Black Desert Online

Players are complaining about the subscription model of Black Desert for NA/EU, but if it is once proved to be a good game, I am afraid some of you who have waited this MMO for a long time couldn’t resist your desire to purchase.

At present, the Korean server and the Russian server of Black Desert is running very well. The developer Pear Abyss is focusing on weapon awakening state of existing classes. Warrior, Sorceress, Berserker and Ranger have received their special awakened forms.

Black Desert NA/EU’s second Closed Beta is scheduled to begin on 18th February. Players who have pre-ordered the Explorer’s or Conqueror’s package will be automatically entered in the Beta, while others can apply for access in early February. The standalone Character Creator of Black Desert is amazing. Regardless of the beautiful characters that Black Desert can make, you might be interested in the ugliest characters by players. MMOsite is honored to be a beta key distributor of Black Desert! Stay tuned! Learn more details about Upcoming CBT2 Updates and Cash Shop at here.

NO. 1 Tree Of Savior

Tree of Savior has won the top 1 in Most Highly-anticipated MMO category of Readers’ Choice event 2019. If Blade & Soul does not come so fast, it will still be a strong competitor on this list. One thing should be celebrated is that Tree of Savior will receive a SEA version soon thanks to the publisher Playone Asia. That means Tree of Savior is coming one step closer to us according to the plan.

Currently, Tree of Savior has been official launched in South Korea, while the game seems not running so well for the players’ protest against the cash shop, bugs, bots as well as services. Perhaps, the price of the game’s cash shop will be adjusted when International version of Tree of Savior is released. Being designed by the “Father of Ragnarok Online” Kim Hakkyu, Tree of Savior featuring a 2.5D graphics with anime style characters has gained a big popularity all over the world. Interested gamers can click here to know about Upgrading System of Tree of Savior and more feature highlights on Exploration, Classes & Roles, EXP Curves by KradisZ at here.

If the range of this list is not confined to massively multiplayer online games, many good console games, VR game and mobile game such as Final Fantasy XV, Street Fighter V, Dishonored2, Halo Wars2, Pokemon GO and etc. are well worthy of your time. So there’s plenty to look forward to this year!
